The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI) have opened applications for the '2026 Research Idea Technology Commercialization Challenge.'

This initiative aims to discover promising research outcomes and support startup creation in the biohealth sector. As a government-led startup ecosystem program designed for young researchers and prospective entrepreneurial teams, it helps bridge biohealth research ideas with actual commercialization while enhancing business capabilities. The challenge offers a total prize pool of 420 million KRW along with tailored, stage-by-stage programs for undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and physician-scientists aged 39 or younger.

SYP is participating in this program as an official partner accelerator (AC), providing end-to-end support throughout the technology commercialization process for the participating teams. In addition to evaluating market feasibility, intellectual property (IP) strategies, and regulatory readiness, SYP will deliver customized consulting, including business strategy development, pitch training, and expert mentoring.

The selected outstanding teams will receive cash prizes and benefit from comprehensive follow-on support, including follow-on investment reviews by SYP, matching opportunities with the private-led Tech Incubator Program for Startups (TIPS), startup and patent strategy design, regulatory compliance support, and connections for joint research or technology transfer.

Applications can be submitted via the official website (https://biochallenge.co.kr) until 6:00 PM on July 15, and further details regarding the schedule are available through the KHIDI official business announcement.
