The 1000th Research Institute Company (WonCuregen Co., Ltd.) was established through the technology transfer brokerage of SYP Co., Ltd.

SYP directly discovered the technology demand of KOSDAQ-listed iCure, linked it to the technology of Dr. Won Mi-sun, a biotech researcher, established BM, and strengthened its patent portfolio, and supported the establishment of the 1000th Research Institute Company (Woncuregen Co., Ltd.). OneCuregen Co., Ltd. has laid the foundation for continuing R&D with the initial investment of the Korea Science and Technology Holdings (KST) and the Bio Accelerator Individual Investment Association created for public technology commercialization.

The Ministry of Science and ICT and the R&D Special Zone Promotion Foundation announced on the 2nd that the number of research institute companies, a representative model of public research and commercialization, exceeded 1,000 in 15 years.

A research institute company refers to a company established in a special R&D zone to commercialize technologies developed by universities and government-funded research institutes as national R&D projects.

The 1000th research institute company is One Curegen, a company established as a joint venture between the Korea Institute of Biotechnology and the KOSDAQ-listed company IQ. The company develops a platform technology that increases anticancer efficacy by combining peptides, a new anticancer substance, with an oral absorption drug delivery system.

Research institute companies have been steadily established since Kolmar BNH was established as the first company in 2006. As of last year, total sales of research institutes reached 738.4 billion won and employment reached 3,910. After Kolmar BNH was listed on the KOSDAQ in 2015 for the first time as a research institute company, Sugentech and Cinteca Bio were listed one after another last year, and three more research institute companies are preparing to be listed. Yong Hong-taek, head of research and development policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, "The achievement of the 1000th research company is a meaningful opportunity to take a step closer to the dream of a science and technology powerhouse."

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said in a congratulatory speech at the event, "The achievement of 1000 research institutes will be a meaningful opportunity to realize the dream of entering science and technology."
