The Korea Information and Communication Technology Association (TTA) announced on the 30th that the association-led standardization task for autonomous vehicles was adopted at the ITU-TSG16 (multimedia) international conference held in Rennes, France, from April 15 to 26.
The task adopted this time is "Collaborative Driving Environment Awareness Framework and Requirements for Connected Self-Driving Vehicles" (F.CAV-CDP, Editor TTA Dr. Kim Young-jae, Senior Director Ko Jeong-wook), which is a next-generation mobility technology that combines communication technology and sensing technology.
The project aims to finally approve ITU-TSG16 (multimedia) by 2026 through continuous development over the next two years, and plans to secure standard patents for domestic companies' microwave utilization technology. According to TTA, the standardization will enable safer autonomous driving services by quickly recognizing the road driving environment by using sensing data sharing and dual channel communication (5.9GHz, mmWave) between connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs) and roadside devices (RSUs).
"Autonomous driving technology is slow to commercialize due to its high difficulty in development, but it is of great industrial importance as a technology that enables innovation in movement and transportation," TTA Chairman Son Seung-hyun said. "We will continue to strengthen standardization activities in the autonomous driving sector."
Meanwhile, TTA has been working with ETRI, venture companies Arklink and SYP patent corporations since 2023 to carry out the task of the "Autonomous Driving Technology Development Innovation Project."
