(SYP) has been honored with an award from the Ministry of Health and Welfare (Minister Cho Kyu-hong) for its outstanding contributions to the field of advanced regenerative medicine. This recognition was presented during the "Advanced Regenerative Medicine Clinical Research Performance Exchange Meeting," held at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul from August 27 to 28. SYP's significant role in the regenerative medicine industry was highly valued, leading to this prestigious accolade.
The Performance Exchange Meeting was designed to share the diverse research achievements in advanced regenerative medicine, facilitating the development and application of new therapeutic technologies. Renowned researchers and medical experts from both domestic and international spheres attended the event, discussing the current status and future prospects of advanced regenerative medicine clinical research, while thoroughly exploring the key outcomes and implications of each study.
Advanced regenerative medicine, which includes cell therapy and gene therapy, aims to regenerate, restore, or form the structure or function of the human body through cutting-edge treatments. These therapies offer new hope for patients with rare and incurable diseases and have garnered significant attention from the global medical community. Leading countries, including the United States, have already established relevant regulations and systems, and are actively supporting research and development in this field.
Korea, in line with this global trend, enacted the "Act on the Safety and Support of Advanced Regenerative Medicine and Advanced Biopharmaceuticals" in 2019. Based on this legislation, a tailored clinical research system for the advanced regenerative field has been introduced and is currently in operation. The clinical research projects presented at this exchange meeting are products of this system, with 45 projects having passed suitability reviews to date, and 23 of these projects receiving clinical research funding.
During the event, the principal investigators of 19 research projects presented their research results and experiences, exploring the practical development directions in the field of advanced regenerative medicine. Attendees discussed the originality and technological achievements of each project, and shared a vision for the future of advanced regenerative medicine.
In addition to the presentation of research achievements, the exchange meeting also recognized and encouraged those who have contributed to the advancement of the field. At the award ceremony, SYP was acknowledged for its innovative contributions to the long-term strategic planning and technology value assessment in advanced regenerative medicine, earning the Ministry of Health and Welfare award.
SYP's CEO, Mr. Kyungsik Shim, expressed his thoughts on the award, stating, "This award is the result of SYP's continuous efforts to advance the regenerative medicine industry. We will continue to dedicate ourselves to the development of advanced regenerative medicine technologies and the growth of the industry.
"The Ministry of Health and Welfare emphasized its commitment to promoting the activation of advanced regenerative medicine clinical research through this exchange meeting. The ministry also highlighted its efforts to explore various ways to ensure that new therapeutic technologies can be applied to more patients. Additionally, Ms. Sora Park, Director of the Clinical Research Support Project Team at the Regenerative Medicine Promotion Foundation, pledged to "provide new hope to patients with rare and incurable diseases who have no existing treatment options through advanced regenerative medicine clinical research, and further create opportunities for new medical technologies or advanced biopharmaceuticals to emerge."
