2022. May. 19.

This is an article on the commercialization of Esc Labs, a high-capital planning research institute company established and supported by SYP.

As Esc Labs Co., Ltd. was selected as a research institute company capacity building project (research institute company R&BD) for the R&D special zone development project in 2022, it announced on the 19th that it will promote "commercialization of health functional foods through optimization of photosynthetic pigment platforms." The "R&D Special Zone Development Project" is a public offering project by the R&D Special Zone Promotion Foundation under the Ministry of Science and ICT. It aims to transfer or invest technology from public institutions to companies and realize dynamic national innovation growth through start-ups and technology commercialization.

With the selection, Esc Labs will be commercialized for one year and nine months after building a microalgae-based photosynthetic pigment platform, prototyping, and evaluation with the Korea Biotechnology Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as Biotechnology Research Institute).

Ahn Jung-hyun, CEO of Esc Labs, said, "We plan to replace marigold-derived lutein/zeazanthin, which is currently dependent on imports, and establish a production process for lutein/zeazanthin, a functional material, from Chlorella, which is registered as FDA GRAS."

"Based on this research project, we will continue to invest in the discovery and efficacy of high-functional bio-materials, the development of domestic raw materials such as high value-added materials, and the development of products such as health functional foods, cosmetics, and medicines using them," he added.

Meanwhile, the researched and developed eye health functional food will be sold through its affiliate Lehman Korea.
